Frame and Form were lucky to be invited to visit the Stockholm Arkitekturmusset (AE) with the exhibition BanaVäg. The AE was opened in 1994 with the aim of highlighting the architecture and urbanism and to promote research in these fields.
The AE offers two major exhibitions to visitors. The first is a permanent exhibition on the evolution of architecture in Sweden in which the visitor can investigate various types of constructions in the Scandinavian country over the centuries.
The second exhibition is themed temporary and variable. The current exhibition, BanaVag (making way) is on display between the 6 October 2009 and the 6 January 2010. The exhibition focuses on the various infrastructure projects that are carried out today by the Banverket (Swedish Railways Authority) and Vagverket (Swedish Road Authority).
The exhibition aims to show the public the various infrastructure plans, their motivations and the various elements to consider for implementation. Issues such as sustainability, creating new spaces, accessibility and environmental impacts of these projects are discussed in detail.
The exhibition makes use of videos, photographs and models, many of which are bridges that are or have been part of these projects. These include the Oresund Bridge between Sweden and Denmark as well as a multitude of bridges designed by the team of Erik Andersson.
The AE creates a space that invites reflection on the work of architects, planners and engineers. The work of the AE brings the world of design to the general public in a accessible and enjoyable manner .
