The Milan Furniture week has passed and left us full of inspiration and new ideas. The world of household products design can give us an interesting insight into functional forms and new materials. In a small collection of articles we will present the designs that we think are most relevant and inspiring within our visit to Milan.

GRIDLOCK COLLECTION by Philippe Malouin

Collection ‘Gridlock’ of Philippe Malouin is based on space frame structures like those used in long-span buildings or formwork support systems. The orthogonal grid of elements is reinforced timely with diagonal bars that provide horizontal stiffness to the system. The repetition and the elegant neatness production endow parts with a high-tech a clean finishing. A play of voids in three-dimensional grid creates compositions that facilitate everyday uses like a lamp, table, mobile, etc.

The pieces are made of aluminum tubes joined together by elements made of aluminum casting. The entire system consists of 14 different parts: two types of tubes and 12 types joinsassembled by hand in their own study Malouin.
